Punta Cana is a run of beaches on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic rather than a single town, and the Ministry of Tourism counts more than 50 km of white sand along it. This guide covers 48 all-inclusive resorts from our checked list: 39 in the six beach areas around Punta Cana (Bavaro 11, Arena Gorda 9, Uvero Alto 7, Cap Cana 5, Macao 4 and Cabeza de Toro 3) and 9 elsewhere in the country: La Romana and Bayahibe 5, Miches 2, Puerto Plata 1 and Samana 1.

The areas differ mainly in the ride from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) and in scale. Resort pages put Cap Cana, a gated community, about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, Bavaro and Cabeza de Toro about 20, Arena Gorda 25 to 45, Macao 30 to 40 and Uvero Alto 35 to 45. The ministry calls Playa Bavaro the main resort area, and the big complexes are there: five Iberostar hotels sharing one golf course, and three Grand Palladium resorts plus TRS Turquesa, whose guests can use sister resorts next door. Macao has the two largest room counts in our data: Hard Rock at 1,775 and Moon Palace The Grand, announced with 2,171 and opened in 2026.

Families have the wider choice: 32 resorts take children and 16 are adults-only. Twenty list a water park or included access to one, 29 have a kids club and 18 a teen club; 19 offer swim-up suites, 11 have a casino and 7 are tied to a golf course, often at an extra charge. The adults-only resorts are spread out, three each in Bavaro, Arena Gorda, Cap Cana and Uvero Alto, and several sit beside a family sister resort with shared restaurants, handy when couples and kids travel together. Hyatt's all-inclusive brands account for 21 of the 48.

This coast keeps changing. Sixteen of the 48 have carried another name, and the newest arrivals include Dreams and Secrets Playa Esmeralda in Miches (2025), Grand Palladium Select Bavaro (reopened December 2025 after a renovation), Moon Palace The Grand (2026) and Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana (August 31, 2026). Two are not taking guests in September 2026: Secrets Macao Beach has no published opening date, and Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada in Puerto Plata is closed for refurbishment until October 26, 2026. How to choose

Start with the ride from the airport

Going by the resorts' own pages, Cap Cana is about 15 to 20 minutes from PUJ, Bavaro and Cabeza de Toro about 20, Arena Gorda 25 to 45, Macao 30 to 40 and Uvero Alto 35 to 45. Miches is about 1.5 hours by the ministry's figure, and La Romana and Bayahibe have their own airport (LRM), which the two Dominicus resorts put about 20 minutes away. Not every resort publishes a number, so ask me to confirm the transfer for the one you have in mind.

Settle adults-only or all ages first

Sixteen resorts are adults-only and 32 take children. Where our data shows a minimum age it is 18 (six of the sixteen state it). A mixed group has a middle path: three family resorts set aside adults-only areas (Riu Palace Bavaro, Dreams Onyx and Moon Palace The Grand), and Zoetry Agua calls itself adult-oriented while permitting children.

Check who the water park is built for

Twenty resorts have a water park or include access to one, but the slides differ. Hard Rock's park has 26 slides, 8 of them for young children; Nickelodeon's Aqua Nick has 5. The slides at Dreams Onyx and Dreams Playa Esmeralda are for ages 9 and up, and Dreams Royal Beach lists height limits on its seven. Match the park to your kids' ages before you choose.

Count the resort next door

Several stays come with a second resort. Royalton Hideaway guests can use Royalton Punta Cana and Royalton Splash. Secrets Royal Beach guests can eat at Dreams Royal Beach, and Breathless guests at Dreams Onyx. TRS Turquesa guests can use the three Grand Palladium resorts beside it in Bavaro, and Secrets and Dreams Playa Esmeralda in Miches open to each other. If your party splits between adults-only and family, these pairs keep everyone within walking distance.

Read the current name and the current status

Sixteen of the 48 have gone by another name, so older reviews and photos may show a different brand, and three resorts (Riu Palace Bavaro, Riu Palace Macao and Royalton Bavaro) are listed at Arena Gorda, not at the beach in their name. Two resorts are not taking guests in September 2026: Secrets Macao Beach is not yet open and Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada is closed for refurbishment until October 26. Ask me before you plan around either one.

Bavaro all-inclusive resorts

The biggest group on this page: 8 family resorts and 3 adults-only (JOIA Bavaro, Secrets Royal Beach and TRS Turquesa). The Ministry of Tourism calls Playa Bavaro the main resort area, and it is where the large complexes sit. The five Iberostar hotels all use the same 18-hole P.B. Dye golf course, and guests at the three Grand Palladium resorts and TRS Turquesa can use sister resorts next door. TRS Turquesa puts this beach about 23 km, roughly 20 minutes, from the airport.

Arena Gorda all-inclusive resorts

Nine resorts from two companies, five RIU and four Royalton: six for families and three adults-only (Riu Palace Macao, Riu Republica and Royalton Hideaway Punta Cana). Every RIU stay here includes the Splash Water World water park, and Royalton Hideaway guests get full access to Royalton Punta Cana and Royalton Splash beside it. The resorts' own pages put them about 25 to 45 minutes from PUJ.

Cabeza de Toro all-inclusive resorts

Three resorts on a beach the Ministry of Tourism describes as family-friendly, about 20 minutes from the airport by Dreams Flora's figure. Two take all ages: Dreams Flora and the 1,091-room Sunscape Coco. The third, Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana, opened as an adults-only resort on August 31, 2026, in what used to be Jewel Palm Beach.

Cap Cana all-inclusive resorts

A gated community about 15 to 20 minutes from PUJ by the resorts' own pages, with four of its five resorts on Juanillo Beach, where the ministry notes calm water. Three are adults-only (Hyatt Zilara, Sanctuary Cap Cana and Secrets Cap Cana) and two take children: Hyatt Ziva, next door to Zilara, and Dreams Cap Cana, the former Margaritaville Island Reserve. The Punta Espada golf course is inside the community, off the resorts.

Uvero Alto all-inclusive resorts

Seven resorts roughly 35 to 45 minutes from PUJ by their own figures: four for families and three adults-only (Breathless, Royalton CHIC and Secrets Tides). The range is wide, from Nickelodeon Punta Cana and its Aqua Nick water park to Zoetry Agua, a boutique resort with 92 suites and villas that calls itself adult-oriented but permits children. Breathless guests can eat at Dreams Onyx next door, and adults staying at Dreams Onyx can use Breathless.

Macao all-inclusive resorts

Four resorts on a beach the ministry links with a more natural setting and surfing. Two are very large: Hard Rock, listed with 1,775 rooms and about 30 minutes from PUJ, and Moon Palace The Grand, announced with 2,171 rooms and opened in 2026. Dreams Macao Beach, a 500-room family resort, is about 40 minutes out, and the adults-only Secrets Macao Beach is being built beside it with shared access planned, but has no opening date yet.

La Romana and Bayahibe all-inclusive resorts

A separate destination with its own airport, La Romana International (LRM), about 20 minutes from the two Dominicus resorts; the ministry puts Bayahibe about an hour from Punta Cana. Four resorts take families and one is adults-only, Secrets La Romana, the former adults side of Hilton La Romana. The ministry lists Playa Dominicus as Blue Flag for water quality, and boats to Saona Island leave from the Bayahibe pier.

Puerto Plata all-inclusive resorts

Puerto Plata is on the north coast, served by Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP), which the ministry puts 15 minutes from the Costa Dorada hotels. The one resort we list, the family-focused Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada, is closed for refurbishment from August 30 to October 26, 2026.

Samana all-inclusive resorts

One all-ages resort, Wyndham Alltra Samana at Las Galeras, which opened in April 2024 and sits about 47 miles (76 km) from Samana El Catey airport (AZS), the airport the ministry calls the gateway to the peninsula. The ministry lists humpback whale-watching in Samana Bay from January to March.

Two neighboring resorts on Playa Esmeralda that both opened in 2025: Secrets Playa Esmeralda (adults-only, August) and Dreams Playa Esmeralda (families, September). Secrets guests can use the dining at Dreams, and adults 18 and over at Dreams get access to Secrets. The ministry puts Miches about 1.5 hours north of Punta Cana by road, and PUJ is the nearest of the four airports it lists.

Outside Punta Cana, La Romana and Bayahibe have 4 family resorts, and Miches, Puerto Plata and Samana have 1 each. Eighteen of the 32 family resorts have a water park or include access to one.

Is Miches part of Punta Cana?

No. The Ministry of Tourism places Miches on the northeastern coast, about 1.5 hours north of Punta Cana by road, and of the four airports it lists for Miches, PUJ is the closest. We list two resorts there, Secrets Playa Esmeralda (adults-only) and Dreams Playa Esmeralda (families), which both opened in 2025 and sit next to each other.
